Biblioteca del Colegio de Misiones de Popayán

Centro de Investigaciones Históricas José María Arboleda Llorente

The Biblioteca del Colegio de Misiones de Nuestra Señora de la Gracia de Popayán was founded to help the clergy in what was considered the most important responsibility of the Spanish empire: evangelizing the different indigenous groups that lived in the area. Presently held by the Centro de Investigaciones Históricas José María Arboleda Llorente at the Universidad del Cauca, this library is one of the most important collections of early printed books that has been preserved in Latin America.

Between August 2015 and August 2019, Neogranadina worked with the Center to digitize dozens of volumes in this library, which we are publishing in our digital libarary as well as providing the basis for our digital edition of the Recopilación de leyes de los reinos de Indias.
